Only since 2008 have these young Brits been indulging with the old NWOBHM/ Doom sound, with which they are however caught between two stools. 'Sword of Damocles' at the beginning should delight followers of CANDLEMASS or SOLITUDE AETURNUS. Epic doom with a slight DIO influence, especially with the vocals. Whose doing then was the (from the info paper) classification as Progressive Rock???
The 10 mostly very crisply performed tracks add up to a good hour's playtime which seems to pass faster though. Because the groove is usually faster, calmer tunes such as 'Broken Spectre' or 'Woken by the Silence' are in the minority.
But the boys are comfortable with both and are presenting a surprisingly mature debut. Not all of it is obviously gold, but it's set a strong mark. Doomsters should take a note of Valpurgis Night!
