A cheesy band name and a photo on the promo sheet that would just as easily fit a Pantera-Roarer-Combo. The anticipation when putting POSV into the tray really is quite limited, but what's that...? A dotty charismatic voice sounds partly epic Heavy Metal buzzes out of the speakers in a truly energetic but not at all over-produced sound wave. This is how Valpurgis Night manage to convince just about everyone who is into NWOBHM and lets themselves in for the quaint voice of frontman Preacher Edwards. The songs cover the full spectrum from "normal" Heavy Metal to more epic moments and rarely fail to get the listener completely under the spell of the sound of Psalms of Solemn Virtue. Thus this debut which practically comes out of left field manages to score highly and should at least be tried out by every fan of NWOBHM.
